Job Opening: Lincoln Academy

Lincoln Academy, in Newcastle, Maine has an opening for a full-time Choral Director beginning in the 2025-26 school year.

Lincoln Academy, an independent Town Academy founded in 1801 seeks a dynamic and skilled Choral Director to lead its established, award-winning choral program.

Serving students from over 15 local towns and up to 55 domestic and international boarding students, Lincoln Academy offers a vibrant and diverse learning environment rooted in 220 years of educational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
– Direct the Lincolnaires Honor Choir (auditioned) and Concert Choir (non-auditioned)
– Teach healthy vocal techniques, music literacy, and audition prep for District, All State, and – All State Jazz ensembles (Typical outcomes: 25–30 students qualify for Districts; 8–10 for All State; 2–4 for All State Jazz).
– Potential to teach music electives (e.g., piano, guitar, AP Music Theory)
– Build supportive relationships with students, faculty, and the school community

Additional Duties
– Advise a student group
– Support the boarding program
– Collaborate within a diverse academic setting

Qualifications
– Bachelor’s Degree in Music or related field required
– Maine Music Education Certification (or willingness to obtain)
– Experience with second language learners a plus
– Strong communication and collaboration skills
– Commitment to professional development

Lincoln Academy is an independent Town Academy deeply rooted in the midcoast communities of central Lincoln County. For 220 years we have served as an educational center for students from more than 15 towns in the region. In addition to our local students, the school enrolls up to 55 international and domestic boarding students. Job Description

The University of Southern Maine’s Osher School of Music is seeking part-time instructor applicants for the upcoming academic years.  Our Fall 2025 semester begins September 1, 2025.

Responsibilities include supporting the Director of Choral Activities in leading the choral program at the Osher School of Music, conducting choral ensembles, or subsets of singers within the choral ensembles, teaching conducting courses and/or applied lessons as needed, and additional teaching responsibilities as necessary at the discretion of the Director of the School of Music.

We are seeking student-focused instructors who will be responsible for the full delivery and grading of the course. Responsibilities include developing the course, teaching, assessing student performance, and meeting with students as needed. The instructor will be provided with the course learning objectives, program competencies, and suggested topical outline and will be given a previous course syllabus available for reference.

Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior teaching experience. Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in music or commensurate professional experience
  • Outstanding qualifications as a performer and teacher

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Keyboard skills suitable for the choral classroom
  • Ability to teach undergraduate choral conducting 
  • Appropriate fluency as a choral conductor in both classical and musical theater voice

Job Opening: Musical Director for Penobscot Bay Singers

JOB OPENING: 

Musical Director/Conductor for the Penobscot Bay Singers: 

“Celebrating the Next 50 Years!”

Location:  Waldo / Knox County; Rehearsals:  Belfast, Maine

Position Start Date: June 15, 2025

Penobscot Bay Singers is a small, but growing, community chorus with a devoted following within the Knox and Waldo County communities. It is comprised of people who love to sing together, and strive to sing well.

Responsibilities of the Director/Conductor:

  • Lead the planning of musical selections for two to three musical seasons (concert programs) per year.
  • Lead weekly rehearsals on Wednesday evenings, in Belfast, from 6:45 – 8:45 PM
  • Conduct two to three concerts per musical season per year. 
  • Serve as vocal coach using warmups and effective teaching methods to prepare the chorus and create an environment that encourages personal growth and interpersonal communication.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors, and the Music and Finance Committees to grow and improve the chorus and improve its visibility in the community.

Qualifications: the applicant should have:

  • A strong background as a musical director/conductor of an adult choral group
  • Knowledge, understanding and appreciation for a wide range of choral genres and styles
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Appropriate Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree, or the equivalent

Job Opening: Minister of Music – First Cong. Church, Scarborough

FIRST CONGREGATONAL CHURCH
MINISTER OF MUSIC AD

The First Congregational Church of Scarborough was founded in 1728. We are
associated with the United Church of Christ. Our present Sanctuary was built in

  1. It has old wooden pews and was built with a classical wood interior which
    helps give a fine acoustical advantage. The Church seats 150 people. It is one of
    the oldest traditional New England Churches in Maine. The Congregation leans
    toward Classical music and traditional Hymns, though it is receptive to other kinds
    of music.
    The Minister of Music is a part-time, salaried position of 10-15 hours per week.
    The candidate must have a sense of calling to work with the Music Ministry and to
    endeavor to bring excellence to the Church’s worship of God. This person reports
    directly to the Pastor and works in collaboration with the Pastor and the Music
    Committee.
    We have an active adult Choir of 7-9 people, who sing in the Sunday morning
    Worship Service for the Academic Year. Our Handbell Choir comes together for
    special Church celebrations, for example, Christmas and Easter. Our organ is a
    two manual Austin Pipe Organ, built in 1979 in Hartford, CT.
    We are a non-discriminatory Church and all applicants are welcome.

Personal and Professional Qualifications:

  1. Music Education or at least two years of experience directing congregational
    worship and choral groups in Church worship settings, or similar experience.
  2. Proficient keyboard skills, including piano and organ.
  3. Possess good people skills and organizational skills.
  4. Be a motivated, self-starter.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Provide organ and piano music at all regularly scheduled Sunday services.
  2. Select appropriate music for each service, including choral, organ and piano
    music. The Pastor selects the Hymns.
  3. Provide music for up to five (5) additional services during the year
    (dependent on Church calendar). This may include Christmas Eve (2 services
    possible), Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and up to one additional.
  4. Direct and be responsible for the leadership of the Senior Choir at all
    regularly scheduled Sunday morning services during the months of
    September to June (start and dates determined by the Church calendar),
    except the Sundays immediately following Christmas and Easter. In the
    event of unplanned absences, the Minister of Music is responsible for
    providing a substitute, paid for by the Church.
  5. Rehearse twice weekly as needed with the Senior Choir from September to
    June. Also responsible for the Handbell Choir and its Rehearsals when
    needed.
  6. Together with the Music Committee of the Ministry of Worship and Spiritual
    Care, arrange for instrumentalists and/or vocalists for the two Sundays that
    the Choir is not singing following Christmas and Easter, as well as during the
    months of June, July and August.
  7. Provide and coordinate music at all special services, including Weddings and
    Funerals held within the Church if requested. (Fees paid by the families.) The
    services of other Organists may be used only with the permission of the
    Minister of Music.
  8. Manage the Music Budget and be responsible for the purchase of all
    necessary music and music supplies.
  9. Be responsible for the use, condition, and scheduled maintenance needs of
    the Church’s musical equipment including the organ and piano. The Church
    shall provide funds for the proper care of these instruments in the Music
    Budget.
  10. Attend meetings of the Ministry of Worship and Spiritual Care and Music
    Committee as requested.
  11. Write the yearly Music Summary for the Annual Report.

Salary and Benefits:

  1. Salary in a range of $20,000-$24,000, commensurate with experience and
    duties performed.
  2. Twelve (12) Paid Time Off (PTO) days during the year (maximum of 8
    Sundays).
  3. Reimbursement for professional expenses, negotiated annually, such as:
    attendance at Church Music Conferences, workshops, other forms of
    continuing Education and AGO Professional dues.
